What makes art classified as Renaissance Art?
The art in which we call
Renaissance art is based on the ideas of Humanism. Humanism was fully achieved
in both sculptures and paintings of the time. Roman cultural and traditional
characteristics are often found in Renaissance art. In paintings, linear
perspective was used to make things appear closer or farther away. Basically
linear perspective is when one looks through a window and paints what one sees
on the window plane. Also, artists used shading to make the human figures
they painted and sculpted appear more realistic. Artists also wanted to really
depict the emotions that the average person felt. They wanted the person seeing
the piece of art to feel something and they wanted viewers to have an emotional
experience. It was a visual learning experience, which was supposed to make
people wanted to be better in their faith and to be a better citizen. Artists
wanted to make art more realistic looking. They wanted to capture the essence
of human beauty in their art. Many artists studied anatomy in order to capture
the beauty of one's body. The artists wanted to their art, specifically their
sculptures, to look solid and display real emotions. This would allow for
viewers to connect to the depicted person.
