Bradford Landau, Sarah. "Renaissance (1300s-1600s)." Renaissance (1300s-1600s).
Scholastic The New Book of Knowledge, n.d. Web. 22 Feb. 2015.
Sarah Bradford Landau discusses the Renaissance as whole at first. Then she discusses what the Renaissance meant and what caused it. The Renaissance was rebirth of classical ideas and traditions. Its goal was to revive the glory and grandeur of the ancient past. It was a rejection of the Middle Ages. Bradford Landau then goes to discuss where the Renaissance began. She discusses the impacts it had in Florence, Rome, Venice, Northern Italy, and Germany. Later she goes on to discuss the different generations of the Renaissance. In the First Generation, artists were still figuring their new style of art and were still painting similar to those during the Gothic period. During the Second Generation, artists really focused on the revival classical ideas and traditions. They focused more on capturing the essence of man. Bradford Landau also discusses the most famous and influential artists of the time and what they contributed to society. She discusses Donatello, Raphael, Da Vinci, Durer, Michelangelo, and Giotto.
Bradford Landau discusses the importance of the Renaissance art period on society. Rather than just discussing the basics of the Renaissance art period, she goes into great detail about how it affected society, how it influenced later generations, and the history behind it. This source and author are very much reliable because the author is from the Department of Fine Arts New York University. She knows the topic and understands it in great detail, which she represents in this article. The main goal of this article is to give insight to the Renaissance art period. It goes into great depth of the Renaissance period. Bradford Landau does not just cover the basics of this topic but she also explains the details of the Renaissance art period.
This article would be very useful to someone researching the Renaissance period itself but more specifically to one researching/studying the Renaissance art period. It can be used to show and make people understand the specific details of the Renaissance. In my research, I found it very helpful in understanding the most famous artists of the time, what influenced the Renaissance art, and where it began and ended. It also discusses the influences, the Renaissance art period had over society and how people reacted to them. This came in very handy for understanding specific pieces of art. This article gives readers the frame of mind that the artists had during the era and what caused them to paint/sculpt in such a manner.
